Organisation for Development of Economic, Social, and Capacity Building was part of CHW International day conference in Kabul.
CHW Day in Afghanistan is observed on 5 December each year. This date has been recognized nationally in Afghanistan since around 2010 to honor community health workers’ contributions to public health.
On this day official events and ceremonies are organized by the Ministry of Public Health and partners to highlight the health impacts of CHWs, share achievements, and encourage continued support for community health programs. For example, earlier celebrations brought attention to how CHWs help deliver quality health care to remote populations.
Afghanistan’s health system heavily relies on CHWs to reach people in remote areas and ensure basic services like vaccinations, health education, and maternal care are available outside major cities. Their role is critical in improving health outcomes amidst ongoing humanitarian challenges.
